The Global Mammal Assessment (GMA) is a programme carried out at Sapienza University of Rome, a member of the IUCN Red List Partnership, to update the mammal data on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. The tasks of the GMA programme include:

Keep up to date information on the ecology, distribution, status and threats to all mammal species worldwide.

Coordinate together with over 30 volunteer species specialist group networks (within the IUCN Species Survival Commission) to help bring the best science to bare to improve decision making.

Publish key findings in scientific and general literature to both advance the science and policies surrounding mammal conservation efforts.

Host and attend workshops, bringing experts together to assess extinction risk and address complex issues of mammal diversity, threat and knowledge.

We work globally, prioritizing regions of the world where, with the available resources, extinctions can be prevented.
